How to Go Crazy Without Really Trying

2/12/2021

Do you have chores, errands, a job, or other responsibilities each day? It's just part of adult life, and most people do. I'm no exception. Sometimes I can't quite keep up with these things, posting on my blog and social media among them. But if I'm prevented from painting too many days in a row my spirits really start to sag. Big time. So I try like hell not to let it happen.

For Details or to Purchase

For the past few months I've been trying to sidestep this dilemma by doing something drastic. Drastic by my standards, although I realize you early birds will find this laughable. Anyway, I've been waking up before sunrise (ouch!) in order to paint right after breakfast. Before the day barrels in with its inevitable twists and turns. This is not easy for me, I assure you! I cringe each and every time that awful, insistent alarm goes off in the morning. But I remind myself of all the overachievers I've ever heard of who got their opuses done before the kids woke up and they traipsed off to their demanding day jobs. Rah rah rah. So I get up. It works.

Except when it doesn't. And sometimes the day sidelines me the instant my feet hit the floor, no matter how early I get up. Call it fate, karma, or whatever. I try to keep my whining to a minimum. As my dear old mamá is fond of reminding me, there'll be better days.

So, what do you think? How do you keep your creative endeavors going in spite of everything life throws at you? And how do you keep your morale up? Any tips? Do let us know in the comments!

I'd love to hear from you!

I'm a representational painter enchanted by the unique qualities of watercolor. Sometimes oils, gouache, colored pencils and other media call to me too. I started this blog to share my work and ideas about making art. Sometimes I toss other things into the mix. Such as painters I love, and art books and exhibits that inspire me. Your comments are welcome. I'd love to hear from you!
