About the Artist
Julie Kessler is a contemporary realist painter working in oils, watercolor, gouache and other media. She comes from an artistic family and has been in love with drawing and painting all her life. She studied with Theodore Fried at the Hudson Guild, and with Sam Adoquei at the National Academy School of Fine Arts. She lives to paint in New York City.
My work expresses my gratitude for the privilege of being alive. I do this by taking time to notice and appreciate the beauty and sensuality in my immediate world. I’m inspired by the colors, textures and shapes of familiar everyday objects as I go about my daily routine. The items on my table might be bathed in warm yellows or shimmer in icy blues. I may be out walking on a crowded New York street and suddenly spot a majestic tree all lit up in an orange blaze. Or I'll see the tiny points of red traffic lights echoing into the distance under a massive gray sky. My wish is to be open to the extraordinary in the ordinary, and to express my delight in its magic ... with paint.
